Breakfast at the hotel 08h00 Today your volcanoes challenge begins from the community of Rota trekking on flat terrain and sand dunes towards Nicaragua’s youngest volcano Cerro Negro. First you will reach the community driving an all-terrain vehicle straight from your accommodation in Leon. Once you get drop off a single-track trail will lead you to the impressive Cerro Negro. It was formed 161 years ago having 18 eruptions since then. The volcanic activity here has made it impossible for trees and plants to grow on the steep black slopes so you will have the advantage of uninterrupted views from the summit over the volcanoes that surround you and the Pacific coast as well. Going down is a lot easier and fun due to the amount of soft sand, it is just perfect for volcano boarding and get back the base in minutes. Box lunch. From the base it is a short hike to our camp at the ranger station located at 300 meter above sea level. BBQ Dinner and Camping.

With two inactive craters and a permanent fumarole we can see its past and present activity. In term of panoramic views this volcano will be one of your favorites so get you camera ready to shoot. Box lunch. On your descent you continue by foot to the beautiful Asososca Lagoon, a volcanic lake of crystalline waters in the “Pilas el Hoyo” volcanic group where a quick dip is a real treat! From here you will continue along a 4×4 road up to a bush camp on Momotombo Volcano, your final destination. Dinner and Camping.

Early snack with coffee at the camp.
03h00 The last trek of the journey is a real challenge and a very early departure is required. The time to conquer the most impressive and representative volcano of Nicaragua has come. The trek starts at around 3:00 a.m., first you will trek with head torches toward a look out points area at a fairly steep and empty black surface, here you will be able to see the entire vegetation of the volcano, the smoking cone and much more. Then you will keep going on the upper part of the volcano getting to the finish line on time for sunrise. Due to resent activities it is not safe to climb to the summit but it is still possible to reach a spot just below the summit with equally impressive views.
