Ceud Mìle Fàilte! Arrive into Glasgow or Edinburgh Airport, and pick up your hire car before heading to your hotel in the Glasgow area. Depending on the time your flight arrives, you may have time to try the local beer on a Tennent’s Brewery tour. Well Park Brewery in Glasgow is home to more than 450 years of brewing tradition and award winning beers. Their new tour takes you behind the scenes to discover how they make Tennent’s so special. Overnight: Glasgow area.
Enjoy a scenic drive from Glasgow to Fort William and stop for photos along the way, for example at Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor and Glencoe. You may want to stop in Fort William, to enjoy a seafood lunch with views of Loch Linnhe. Continue your drive through the Great Glen and stop at Fort Augustus where perhaps you would like to take a cruise on Loch Ness. Arrive at your hotel in the Inverness / Aviemore area.
Drive the short distance to Leault Farm to meet a local sheep farmer, who will tell you about sheep farming in Scotland, and give a sheepdog demonstration. Continue through the famous Speyside whisky region, and stop at one of the distilleries for a tour and whisky tasting. On your way to your hotel in Aberdeen, stop at Dean’s of Huntly to experience how shortbread is made and sample some of this local delicacy with a cup of tea or coffee. Overnight: Aberdeen area.
Today you can explore the scenic Royal Deeside area – a favourite region with the royal family since the 1850s. In the morning, you can enjoy a walk through the gardens at Crathes Castle, followed by a tour of the castle. Continue along the river Dee to stop in one of the many villages, such as Ballater to see the royal warrant signs above the doors of the local shops. You too can shop like the royals! This afternoon, you may wish to meet a local farmer who will tell you about their herd of Highland Cattle, while you enjoy some local delicacies. Overnight: Aberdeen area.
Drive south from Aberdeen along the coast and stop in Arbroath to discover the local delicacy – Arbroath Smokies. See the smoking process and sample some of the freshly smoked fish. On your way to St Andrews, you can stop at St Andrews Cheese Farm to sample a platter of locally produced cheese. Continue to St Andrews, famous for its golf, cathedral and university and spend some time at leisure here. Arrive into Edinburgh late afternoon, and this evening try some haggis at a Scottish Evening. The evening promises Scottish music and entertainment, and local food – including the famous Address to the Haggis ceremony. Overnight: Edinburgh area.
Your open bus tour of Edinburgh today will take in both the New Town with its orderly streets and Georgian mansions, and the Old Town with its narrow lanes and mediaeval buildings. Finish the tour with a visit to Edinburgh Castle, the iconic castle perched high above the city on an extinct volcano. This afternoon, take a tour of Edinburgh Gin Distillery, and sample this typically British liquor or why not visit Edinburgh Beer Factory to sample a local craft beer. Overnight: Edinburgh area.
Return your hire car at Edinburgh or Glasgow airport, before flying back home.
