Overview

Once in a lifetime, you may have dreamed of a chance to reach the base of the World's highest Mountain “Everest”. Get ready to reach Everest Base Camp on our journey by motorbike. This riding adventure starts in Nepal and its historical city Kathmandu. Taking us to Lhasa and Everest Base Camp. You will have a scenic ride that crosses over 5 passes and follows a route towards a sprawling river valley and picturesque traditional villages are designed for those travelers who are adventurous and want to explore the natural paradise of Tibet on a Bike.

Detailed Itinerary

Arrive in Kathmandu at International Airport (before 11 am), meet our representative, and transfer to the hotel. You should fill in the Chinese visa form. We will collect the form, along with your passport and one color photo (48 mm x 35 mm size). Then our tour officer will help you apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy.
Then you can check into a room and refresh for our hour.
Our representative will brief you about the tour program with the necessary preparation. The rest of the day is free, you can stroll around Thamel market and enjoy your time.
In the meantime, you can also prepare for your trip by buying or hiring anything necessary things (bike gear or clothing etc) from a shop in Thamel or other near markets.
(Note: Visa process takes 3 working days (Mon-Wed) – apply time before 1 pm on the first day and visa obtain time by 10 am on 3rd day so it is suggested to check your flight date & timing arriving before 11 am between Mon to Wed).

After an early breakfast in the hotel, we will go to the garage to check out Motorbike. After all arrangements and preparation, we will take it for a city ride for a sightseeing visit of Heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley: Budhanilkantha Temple (the masterpiece stone sculpture of Lord sleeping Vishnu on serpents), Bouddhanath Stupa (the biggest Buddhist stupa of Asia) & Pashupatinath Temple (the biggest holy temple of Hindus dedicated to Lord Shiva).

6 am wake-up call for breakfast, and we depart by 6.30 am for the Rasuwagadhi border. On the way to Trishuli bazaar, you will be stopping for a lunch break in a highway restaurant and will continue your journey further ahead. We will continue to Syabrubesi for a further 12 km till Timure for an overnight stay depending upon the border situation or the availability of a lodge.

The drive from Kathmandu to the border is splendid due to the wonderful views of the Himalayan ranges en route. Driving through local villages with stunning landscapes, picturesque views of greenery hilly regions and extreme flow of white water in the Trishuli river will be very peaceful.
Although the road condition from Kathmandu to Kalikasthan (100km) is good but after the border it is rough & off-road. Dhunche or Syabrubesi are alike base camps of Langtang for the trekkers to begin their trekking to the Langtang National Park region. Timure is the border town where all immigration & customs are settled. Both small towns are little developed with facilities of guesthouses, restaurants, banks, hospitals, schools etc. There is a certain level of security and checkpoints by the army & police on the way , after Dhunche till Timure. On reaching our hotel, we will check in and take a rest.

Note: one of our tour officers will collect the passport & visa from Embassy at 10.30 am and drive to Syabrubesi and will meet you all there and hand over the documents.

Early morning wake up for breakfast and depart by 7.30 am for our ultimate destination to the Tibet region. Our first stop will be the Rasuwagadhi border by 8.00 or 8.30 am, where Once we reach Kyirong, we check into the hotel and take a rest for the day.

Today your journey will be towards New Tingri (Xegar). The 2-hour ride takes us to a high pass with an altitude of 4900 m high, from where you can see the magnificent view of the Himalayan range including Mt. Shishapangma, the highest mountain in Tibet (in clear weather). There you will also spot the beautiful view of pristine Peiku Tso Lake & majestic Ganesh Parbat on your right. After crossing Peiku Tso Lake, you can overlook the Friendship highway. It is very comforting having great views of the Himalayas in the South including Mt. Everest & Choyu on clear weather days.

After breakfast, we set off for our onward journey moving to Shigatse town. Today you will cross two high passes Yulung La (4950 m) & Gyatso La (5220 m), the highest pass en route to Lhasa via Lhatse from where a road to Mt. Kailash bifurcates to the west. After reaching Shigatse, we will transfer you into the hotel to relax after the long ride.

After breakfast, you will visit Tashilunpo Monastery, the highlight of Shigatse, as it is one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet. This monastery is the residence or official throne of Panchen Lama built in 1447. This is a vast monastery with its own streets, housing sectors, plazas, back alleys and a complex of temples and halls. After finishing sightseeing, we will continue on our journey to Lhasa via the northern highway route. The road will follow through the riverbed of Yarlung Tsangpo River and on reaching Lhasa County your drive will follow through the Kyi Chu River

After breakfast we head to visit Potala Palace – a UNESCO World Heritage celebrated for its priceless treasury of Buddhist artifacts and bejeweled tombs of past Dalai Lamas. The Potala was also the tallest building in the world for 200 years following its construction in 1645. Equally breathtaking are the gardens and sacred spaces of the Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama’s summer residence. We will also visit the Jokhang Temple followed by Barkhor Markets – a bustling road lined with vendors where you can sample the smells and sounds of Tibet, or browse through the Thankas, masks, prayer beads and countless other treasures inherent to Tibetan customs and tradition.

Today we will visit Drepung Monastery, which was built in the 14th century and was home to over 10,000 monks. Drepung was also the educational center for the lineage of Dalai Lamas and is famed for attracting tens of thousands of pilgrims for its Thanka festival. Drepung has a poignant presence in the spiritual life of Tibetans and is the most cherished of all Tibet’s monasteries.
In the afternoon, we visit Sera Monastery, accompanied by an experienced tour guide (who is also a translator). Serais is an exceptional space; its white-washed walls and golden roofs speak of Tibetan Buddhism’s ancient wisdom and tranquility.

We will travel along Friendship Highway, passing Khamba La (4794 m), where there will be the opportunity to appreciate majestic views of Yamdrok‐Tso Lake, a deep blue body of water renowned for its unique beauty. The group will also see Nazin Kang Sang glacier standing proud at 7252m. Ahead to the west, we will come across another Karo La pass at 5045m. Following a 270 km drive, we will enter the town of Gyantse, a stunning example of a traditional Tibetan village filled with beautiful stone farmhouses. Gyantse Dzong and the Kumbum are the jewels of Gyantse. Gyantse Dzong is a historical fort built in the 14th century and overlooks Gyantse and the surrounding Nyang Chu Valley. The Kumbum rises 35km above the town, and is crowned by a golden dome. The grounds boast a Chorten (stupa), several chapels and a stunning collection of Tibetan Buddhist murals, which inspired the name of the complex. The word ‘Kubum’ means 100,000 images in Tibetan.

After morning breakfast we set off for our exotic trip towards the Everest region. The drive passes through Shigatse town after following a 90 km distance. En route the group will stop at Shalu monastery; the structure embodies the Han, Tibetan and Indian styles of architecture. Following a brief look at Shalu, the journey continues towards Tingri. The drive to Xegar is defined by the picturesque landscape – we will pass the small towns of Lhatse and Gyatso La pass at 5220m. You will have the opportunity to see Natang Monastery (12 kms from Xigatse). In the evening we reach Xegar. As the landscape opens into vast plains, many monasteries and camps of nomadic herders become visible in the distance.

From Xegar, we drive to the south crossing of Pang La pass at 5150m. The trail after leaving the highway will be off-road. Along the drive, we will bask in the glory of Makalu and Shishapangma. After driving for 85 km, we will reach Rongbuk, where Mt. Everest is visible. The day will be filled with an exploration of Everest Base Camp. It is now feasible to drive up to EBC from Rongbuk, we easily reach base camp by our Motorbike or Jeep. The group will also visit Rongbuk Monastery, a Buddhist pilgrimage site founded in 1902 by a Nyingmapa Lama. The cluster of meditation huts has been used by monks and hermits for over 400 years. In addition to the huts, hermits retreated to the many caves that dot the cliff walls around the monastery and valley below. We will walk the very paths used by hermits – ancient trails lined with hundreds of carved stones that embody sacred syllables and prayers.

At first light, we will explore Base Camp and watch the sunrise at Mt. Everest. It is a truly awe-inspiring place - the absolute north face of the highest mountain in the world soaring above you. The tour will continue on to Zhangmu through an off-road & rocky trail up to Lo-Tingri. Driving past Tingri, we will return through the same trail which offers enchanting views of Shishapangma, Ganesh Parbat, and Lake PeikuTso. We then descend gradually from the dry Tibetan Plateau. After several hours, you will find yourself amidst the verdant and fertile vegetation of Kyirong near the Nepalese border.

Early morning after finishing breakfast, we ride down to the border and clear all immigration formalities with the guide's assistance. Our Tibetan guide and driver will see off the group. Exit to the Nepal border and drive to Syabrubesi, here we will take a short halt for tea/coffee & refresh then continue our adventure ride on the mountain trail towards Kathmandu city. On the way to Trishuli, we will have a lunch break. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, check into the hotel and refresh. The rest of the day is free to relax.

Free day/Cushion day to relax or explore around the town for the final minute of souvenir shopping. In the evening you are invited by our Kathmandu team for a farewell dinner at a typical Nepali restaurant with a culture program and enjoy the last evening for the success of your adventure motorbike expedition.

After breakfast, you can spend time packing and travelling to the airport for your flight.

Notes

 Minor Repairs like brake shoes, spark plugs, clutch plates, tubes, cable (01 set only) and engine oil have been included in the cost. However, if more damage occurs due to rough handling, accidents or theft, then the repair costs must be paid by you. (Applies only if you hire your bike from us)

We will be taking this tour in spring or autumn. During this season the average temperature ranges from 15C to 25C, with blue skies and clear weather. The nights, however, can be very cold and temperatures can drop below 0 degree Celsius.
