Itinerary
Xin Chao! Welcome to Hanoi, one of the region's most charming cities, where French colonial elegance meets Asian spirit with attractive lakes, colourful pagodas and atmospheric streets. On arrival, you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure for you to relax or head out and explore.
Meal Plan: No Meal
Leaving bustling Hanoi behind we drive to the picturesque Mai Chau Valley this morning, which is home to the White Thai ethnic minority group. Lunch is served at a traditional family-run guesthouse on stilts in the charming village of Mai Hich and this afternoon we enjoy a leisurely walk through the back roads and rice fields of the valley for our first encounter with the Thai people, going about their daily lives. The rest of the day is free to spend at leisure. You can relax by the swimming pool at the lodge or there are bikes you can hire to explore more of the countryside.
Overnight in Mai Chau
Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch
Today we drive to the H’mong ethnic lands in the mountainous province of Hoa Binh and the rocky plateau of Hang Kia. Meet the colourfully dressed locals and eat lunch in a traditional wooden home. This afternoon we enjoy an easy-paced trek downhill to Mai Chau Valley, admiring the picturesque scenery as we go. We'll then be transferred back to our lodge in the valley.
Please note: If you prefer not to trek, we can transfer you by road back to the lodge, where you can enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch
This morning we drive to the beautiful Ninh Binh region, which is often referred to as an inland Halong Bay.
First we visit the reminiscences of the imperial capital of Hoa Lu. Hoa Lu was Vietnam's capital under the Dinh and Early Le dynasties in the 10th and 11th centuries. Its palaces, pagodas, tombs and pavilions, built by different dynasties, still carry the features of an ancient imperial capital. At nearby Trang An, you'll board a sampan for an extended journey along the winding river lined with trees and limestone mountains. You will stop by several small, historic temples which are the pride of the area’s inhabitants. The lush forests, clear river water, fresh air, magical caves and dramatic mountains will charm you from first glance.
Transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Ninh Binh.
Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch
After having breakfast at hotel, bid farewell to Ninh Binh and drive to spectacular Halong Bay, where karst island peaks dappled with lush vegetation rise from the pristine emerald coloured waters. We explore this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site on an overnight junk boat cruise.
Junk boats are based on a traditional design, combining oriental style with modern luxury. On board you can soak up the panoramic views from the sundeck as the boat gently plies its course. This afternoon we visit Trinh Nu Cave, one of the finest caves in Halong Bay, covering an area of 2,000m² with a stunning array of stalactites and stalagmites. There's also the opportunity to go kayaking and enjoy a refreshing swim.
Later this evening back on board, watch a Vietnamese cooking demonstration held on the sundeck before settling down for a sumptuous seafood dinner.
Please Note: Cruise itinerary is subject to change depending on weather, tidal conditions.
Overnight on board.
Meal Plan: Breakfast lunch and Dinner
Wake up to see a spectacular sunrise over the bay! This morning cruise through the stunning rocky islands emerging from the crystal-clear waters. After brunch on board, we disembark and make our way back to Hanoi.
Crossing through Ba Dinh Square and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Proceed visit the Temple of Literature – Vietnam's very first university built in the 11th century. Heading out to 1 hour cyclo around Old Quater, the bustling heart of Hanoi, which has been a commercial centre since King Ly Thai To built his palace there in the 11th century. Skilled craftsmen started to migrate and artisan guilds were formed on the famous "36 Streets".
