Things to know before visiting Nicaragua

Climate

Nicaragua experiences pleasant weather for most time of the year. Summers are between November and April while monsoons fall between May and October. During the rainy season it can get quite cold.

Places to Visit
Granada

Granada is a picture postcard perfect destination with clear turquoise waters, white waterfront lodges and awe inspiring colonial architecture. History enthusiasts will surely love this place as it is the oldest city in Central America and has many monuments and museums to understand the history of this ancient town. While in Granada you must visit the Iglesia La Mercd, Fortaleza La Polvora, Catedral de Granada and Mi Museo.


Mombacho Volcano and Cloud Forest

An interesting place of visit is the volcanoes in Nicaragua. Mombacho Volcano is close to Granada and a hike up to the volcano gives spectacular views of the four volcanic craters. Cloud forest around the same area is home to some unique animal species that nature lovers would relish. If you want some adventure, you could indulge in zip lining too.


Leon

The old capital city of Nicaragua is a small, colonial town celebrating the traditions and culture of the country. A UNESCO world heritage site, this town is steeped in history that is evident the moment you set foot there. Some of the must visits in Leon include; the Leon Cathedral, the Central Plaza, Oritz-Gurdian Foundation Art Museum and many other museums.


The Corn Islands

About 45 miles off the Caribbean shore of Nicaragua lie the Corn Islands. They have azure blue waters, palm fringed beaches and clear skies with lofty clouds- making for an idyllic destination to unwind and relax. A tropical paradise, it can be enjoyed by those who love the sun, the sand and the beach.


Ometepe Island

The island of Ometepe has two active volcanoes- Concepcion Volcano and Maderas Volcano amid lush green tropical forest. It is an adventure enthusiast’s delight with canoeing, horseback rides and bicycling to explore the landscape.
