The climate in Luxembourg is mild and temperate. Usually, summers are cool with an average temperature of 17° C while winters are cold with a temperature of 0° C. Spring starts from March and lasts till May while summers come up between May and August. In Autumn the temperatures are high with rains about to start while winters are quite cold and last from December to March.
Luxembourg city is a beautiful city and a great place to start exploring this town is the Old quarter. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The city’s old fortifications have made it popular all over the world with the fortress being dubbed as the "Gibraltar of the North,". The old fortress was damaged between 1867-1883 but it still has a strong hold on the Old Quarter. Today, there are beautiful parks and gardens around the old fortifications. You must explore this stunning part of the city on foot, walking through the narrow alleyways, cobbled streets lined with pretty looking old houses.
If you are a nature enthusiasts, traverse to the Luxembourg Ardennes and walk through sheer cliffs, forested plateaus, green valleys and enjoy the impressive views that you get all along. The area is popular as this was the place Hitler had his last campaign of WWII. It is dotted with castles, fortified farms and fortresses. A must-see is the Battle of the Bulge Museum in Wiltz Castle, showcasing the story of WWII and the Patton Museum and monument in Ettelbruck.
This park is a nature enthusiasts haven as it is surrounded by narrow valleys with wooded slopes, plateaus and the lake of the Upper Sure dam. There are many leisure and water sport activities that take place here. If you want to explore this place on foot, go on the nature trails, exploring the area and its small gems. You could also indulge in swimming, boating, sailing and fishing. There are many musical events that take place here; the largest is the biennial Water-Art Festival with 200 musicians playing under the theme "Rock meets Classic."
A quaint old market town, Larochette is located in a narrow rock valley with forests all around. It has two old rebuilt castles towering over the town. It has a beautiful medeival square, many historical monuments dotting the town, the Neo-Roman church renowned for its Art Nouveau frescoes and a museum of industry. All these monuments are worth a visit. The town is also a haven for hikers with many trails along the countryside that lead to great view points like the castles of Nommerlayen and Meysembourg and also a Roman camp at Aalburg.
A picturesque town on either side of a river, Vianden is a feudal manor dating back to the ninth century. Its architecture is compared to that of the iconic Eiffel Tower. Another noticeable part is the medieval outer wall that guards the entire city with impressive guard towers. A must visit in this town is the parish church with two naves built in Gothic style. Its nice to explore this town on foot and walk to the countryside of the Our Valley- a beautiful setting with splendid views.
