Hotel/Other Details: The Waterfront Hotel, Kuching (Premier room)

Meal Plan: No Meal

Breakfast served at the hotel.

This morning, we will visit to Semenggoh Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center (approx. 3 hours). The best place in Sarawak is to view semi-wild orangutans, who have been rescued from captivity and trained to survive in the surrounding forest reserve. The rehabilitated animals roam freely in the rainforest and often return to the Centre at feeding time. Thanks to the successful breeding programmed at Semenggoh there is a good possibility of experiencing one of the most heart-warming sights in Borneo – an orangutan mother with a young baby. The Centre is 30 minutes' drive from Kuching and another 20 mins on foot. Along the way, visitors pass by the ethnobotanical
gardens, with their unique collection of rainforest plants. Semenggoh also has several short collections of rainforest plants. Note: As the orangutan in Semenggoh is semi-wild, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Afternoon free to explore the city on your own.

1600 hrs. Pick up from the hotel for Santubong Wildlife Cruise (approx. 3.5 hours)

This tour takes you around the rivers of the Santubong Peninsular, offering you the chance of seeing some of Sarawak’s fascinating wildlife. The cruise starts at the Sarawak Boat Club. From there your boat cruises to the mouth of the Santubong River, where Irrawaddy dolphins are often spotted.

Your boat then roams the mangrove-lined rivers looking for wildlife. As the light starts to fade, we go in search of the rare proboscis monkey. Small groups are often seen in the treetops at the water edge, settling down for the night.
As dusk arrives, we search for fireflies and crocodiles. Crocodiles are often seen on the mud banks and brightly shining crocodile eyes can be spotted when a torchlight is passed over the river.

After searching for crocodiles your boat proceeds further upriver where fireflies gather at night. Watch the fireflies move around the branches of the mangroves, momentarily lighting up the night sky. After enjoying a firefly light show you return to the boat club.
Note: Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, we do enjoy a high success rate. Wildlife commonly seen on this tour includes proboscis monkeys, estuarine crocodiles, macaque monkeys, fireflies, monitor lizards, and silver-leaf monkeys. Irrawaddy dolphins and a range of bird life like White Belly Eagle, White Eagle, Seagulls, Kingfisher, etc. Cruises do not operate during rainy weather.

Meal Plan: Breakfast

After breakfast, depart for Kayaking in the Rainforest (approx. 7 hours).

You will be transferred to Kampong Bengoh – the launch point for this morning’s four-hour kayak tour along the Sarawak River and its tributaries. Having been briefed in the ways of your kayak and general safety, slide off along the river towards Danu village, with ample chance to soak up the sound of undisturbed jungle life as you paddle.

Danu is home to around 50 Bidayuh families, Sarawak’s second-largest indigenous group. Access to the village is by a narrow suspension bridge – all vehicles are left outside.

On reaching Danu, enjoy a traditional Bidayuh lunch before continuing along the river to Kampong Semadang, another Bidayuh village in the Sarawak River basin.

Disembark and dry off before transferring back to Kuching.

Depart by land to Sri Aman, which will take approx. 4 hours drive with stopover at Serian Town. After the walk around the market how about a local coffee break at one of the Kopitam in Serian. Lunch will be provided at Lachau Café before arriving Sri Aman. “The other thing that Sri Aman is famous for the benak, or tidal bore, of the Batang Lupar River.[2] The tidal bore comes in from the river mouth and fills up the river very rapidly in the course of about 10 minutes. The wave crest at Sri Aman is up to 2 to 3 metres high. This is one of approximately 400 rivers and estuaries in the world where this phenomenon happens. There is a timetable at the river which has the time and dates for when the tidal bore will occur, but the really big ones occur only a couple of times a year.”
