Journey from Lucerne to Lugano, crossing the Swiss Alps along the historic Gotthard route. In summer (mid-April to mid-October), the journey combines a boat trip on Lake Lucerne with the panoramic Gotthard Panorama Express train. During winter, the route is operated by regular train along the modern line through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the longest tunnel in the world. Arrival in Lugano, in the canton of Ticino, a charming city on the shores of the lake of the same name, with its historic centre, the lakeside promenade, and its Mediterranean-style squares. Overnight stay in Lugano.
