Itinerary
At 06:00 am, you will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha and driven on a tarmac road to Tarangire National Park with a packed lunch for a full-day game drive. Tarangire is one of the finest national parks in northern Tanzania, named after the Tarangire River, which runs through it. The park’s landscape is characterised by rolling hills, acacia woodlands, majestic baobab trees, and seasonal swamps. The Tarangire River, being the only permanent water source in the park, attracts a large concentration of wildlife, especially during the dry season.
Tarangire is renowned for its huge elephant population, one of the largest in Africa. Other animals commonly spotted include giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, impalas, wildebeests, warthogs, baboons, and various monkeys. Rare species such as the greater kudu, fringed-eared oryx, and ashy starling are also found here. Predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals roam the park, while vultures and other birds of prey circle above. In the evening, drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight at Kudu Lodge.
Kudu Lodge and Campsite, located in the heart of northern Tanzania’s safari circuit, offers warm hospitality, comfortable accommodation, and peaceful surroundings. Nestled in eleven acres of rolling countryside with mature trees and gardens alive with bird life, it provides a tranquil hideaway and the perfect base for your safari adventure. The lodge embodies spaciousness, friendliness, and true African hospitality. Dinner & Overnight at Kudu Lodge.
Meal Plan: Breakfast lunch and Dinner
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park with picnic lunches for a full-day game drive. Established in 1952, Serengeti is home to the world’s greatest wildlife spectacle, the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras. It also boasts impressive resident populations of lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and countless bird species. Covering 14,763 sq km (5,700 sq miles), the Serengeti is larger than the U.S. state of Connecticut, yet sees only a few hundred safari vehicles at any one time, ensuring vast open spaces and breathtaking wilderness.
Your camp is set in a stunning location alongside the Nyabogati River, immersing you in the heart of nature with abundant bird life and wildlife all around. The area, dotted with acacia trees, is the perfect place to enjoy spectacular sunsets over the distant hills. Dinner & Overnight at Embalakai Tented Camp.
Meal Plan: Breakfast lunch and Dinner
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park, exploring its diverse landscapes and wildlife-rich plains. Return to camp in the evening to relax and soak in the beauty of the surroundings, with views of the Nyabogati River and the African sunset. Dinner & Overnight at Embalakai Tented Camp.
Meal Plan: Breakfast lunch and Dinner
After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with picnic lunches. Descend to the crater floor for a half-day game drive before returning to Arusha or Moshi in the afternoon.
Covering 2,286 sq km, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area encompasses volcanic landscapes including the still-active Oldonyo Lengai volcano and the world-famous Olduvai Gorge. Its centrepiece, the Ngorongoro Crater, is the largest unbroken caldera in the world. The first glimpse of the crater is simply breathtaking.
The crater floor, covering about 260 sq km (100 sq miles), is home to around 30,000 animals, including a high concentration of predators. Up to 25,000 large mammals roam the crater, dominated by grazers such as wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, buffaloes, elands, hartebeests, and warthogs. Giraffes are absent due to limited food at tree level, and topis compete too closely with wildebeests to thrive here.
Interestingly, most elephants found in the crater are solitary bulls. Breeding herds, composed of females and young, tend to remain outside the crater where better-quality food is available.
