Itinerary

Arrival into Kotoka International airport, meet your English Speaking Guide and transfer to your hotel. Later, meet your English Speaking Guide, and drive by the Osu Castle (Christiansborg), which was originally built by the Danes, proceed to the Independence square to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum (the final resting place of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President). End the day with a welcome dinner at the Rehab Beach Club.

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out, meet your English Speaking Guide and depart for the Central Region along a coastline marked with forts. Travel along a coastline of forts to the Kakum National Park comprising undisturbed virgin rainforest. We have the option of a walking tour through the forest trails or to experience a walking tour on the longest and highest canopy walkway in West Africa. Also visit the Cape Coast Castle a fortress that was built by the Swedes in 1653, seized by the Danes and later conquered by the British.

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out, meet your English Speaking Guide and start the day with a visit to the Elmina Castle, founded by the Portuguese in 1482. Also visit the nearby fishing harbour and fish market. Depart for the Ashanti region through Assin Manso, where slaves were kept, had a last bath in the "Donko Nsuo" before shipment to the New World. End the day with a visit to the Kumasi Cultural Centre, which offers a good account of the rich Ghanaian culture, It houses the Prempeh II Jubilee museum, which provides a fascinating collection of Asante’s history.

Breakfast at the hotel. Meet your English Speaking Guide and start the day with a visit to the Manhyia Palace, seat of the Ashanti Kingdom. Witness the Akwasidae festival, a grand durbar of Chiefs and Elders paying homage to the Asantehene. In the afternoon, visit the crafts villages of Ntonso, famous for adinkra design and Ahwiaa for carving and the village of Adanwomase (Kente). Also visit the Asante.  Traditional Buildings including the Asemaso Traditional Shrine.

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out, meet your English Speaking Guide and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Accra. Arrival into Kotoka International airport, meet your English Speaking and transfer to the Artists Alliance Art Gallery for contemporary African art. Continue to the coffin makers who make coffins to reflect a person’s affiliation. In the evening, visit the Osu Night Market – loaded with local street food including kenkey and fish, kelewele (spicy fried plantain) and kebabs. This market is open all day and all night, with a different set of vendors for sunrise and sunset.

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out, meet your English Speaking Guide and set off for Togo with a stopover at the Nkyinkyim Museum. On arrival we visit the Grand Marche – the realm of the famous “Nana Benz” then to the Art Street with its craft vendors. Also visit the Akodesséwa fetishes market, where one can find magic remedies and local voodoo charms used by local sorcerers.

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out, meet your English Speaking Guide and depart for Benin through the village of Akodeha to witness the Zangbeto ceremony. Continue to Ouidah, where we visit the Sacred Forest and the Temple of the Pythons, both important voodoo shrines. Continue trip to Cotonou.

Early morning visit to Ganvie, the “Venice” of the Continent, a 500-year-old village on water. Set off for Porto-Novo named by the Portuguese in the 1500s. Many Afro-Brazilians settled in Porto Novo following their return to Africa after emancipation in Brazil. We will visit the vibrant market and Ethnographic museum, and the Grand Mosque, formerly a church designed in Brazilian style and the 300 year-old Palace of King Toffa, which retraces the history of Porto-Novo.
