Climate

Macau is categorized into wet and dry seasons. Usually, the weather is warm in spring; rainy and hot in summers, cool in Autumn and cold and sunny in winters. Summers start from May and last till September with high temperatures and heavy humidity that causes thunderstorms and rainstorms. Winters are from December to March with February being the coldest month and temperatures plummeting to 10 C.

The Ruins of St. Paul’s

An imposing Macau landmark, the St. Paul's Cathedral was once the finest looking building’s in the far east. In 1601, it was ruined by fire and it was refurbished in 1637 based on the church of the Gesù in Rome. In 1835, it was again damaged by fire but its facade still remains and showcases the cathedral’s regal glory. The not to be missed things at the cathedral are the statute of Jesus and Madonna, beautifully landscaped gardens in the front, relief ornaments- from a figure of the Virgin Mary, skeletons and dragons to varied beautifully carved motifs.


Senado Square

A popular tourist site in Macau, the Senado Square is bustling with activities and tourists always. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that portrays the history and culture of Macau. Art and architecture oozes out of all the buildings around the square with magnificent pastel coloured neo-classical buildings and wave-patterned mosaic colored stones on the streets. The highlights of the square include; old Senate building, a fine example of Portuguese colonial architecture. Built in 1784, it has rich wood paneling in the Council Chamber and over 50,000 rare manuscripts in the Senate Library. The square is also a great place to indulge in shopping and dining with small cafes dotting the streets and local and international brands of shops all over the square.


A-Ma Temple

Built in 1488, the splendid A-Ma Temple is dedicated to the goddess Matsu. It is a part of Macau's UNESCO Historic Center and also the most important religious site in the city. This architecturally inspiring monument is divided into six parts and has many interesting things to see including; the Chinese architecture on the stone lions at the entrance, statues of goddess Matsu, hall of Avalokitesvara and Zhengjiao Chanlin and the Hongren hall.


Fortaleza do Monte

This grand fort was built in 1626 and was a significant mark of the Portugal's military presence. Eventually, it was made into the governor's residence till 1749. Today, it is home to a huge museum showcasing the archaeology and anthropology of the city focusing on the way Macanese, Portuguese and Chinese have worked and lived together. Some of the other must-visit places here are the Mount Fortress Garden, Mansão Evocativa de Sun Yat-Sen, a mansion built for the Sun Yat-sen, founder of the first Chinese Republic and the Sun Yat Sen Park.


The House of Dancing Water

This is the largest water show in the world with a seating capacity of 2, 000 people and a customized theater. The show lasts for 90 minutes with breathtaking action. The world’s best circus artists, dancers, gymnasts and motorcyclists display their skills in the most beautiful and elegant manner during the show. The technical brilliance of the place is awe-inspiring with the stage transforming from a large pool into a dry stage withing a matter of seconds. Its best to pre book this show as it gets full very fast.
