Set out on an extraordinary expedition through Iceland’s winter scenery with our new combo tour. This unique experience blends our celebrated Land of Northern Lights tour with the captivating Northern Lights Secrets – Westfjords tour. Explore Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage while searching for the mesmerizing Northern Lights.

Start the journey on our Reykjavík tour to discover the city centre and main shopping street. Then, venture to the Reykjanes Peninsula’s moonlike terrain and unwind at the famous Blue Lagoon. Enjoy a two-night stay in South Iceland, where you’ll explore the South Shore, visiting Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, and the iconic Black Sand Beach at Reynisfjara. Experience Icelandic history at a folk museum. Before returning to Reykjavík, drive the Golden Circle route to marvel at Gullfoss waterfall, the erupting Geysir, and Þingvellir National Park, the site of the world’s oldest parliament.

After your South Iceland adventure, spend a day in Reykjavík before heading to the remote Westfjords for four nights. This secluded region is renowned for its dramatic fjords, rugged cliffs, and tranquil landscapes. Experience the raw beauty of towering mountains, picturesque fishing villages, and hidden bays. Each day brings new adventures, from exploring hidden waterfalls and ancient volcanic formations to discovering local history and traditions.

Detailed Itinerary

Individual transfer by Flybus shuttle bus from Keflavik airport to your accommodation in Reykjavik. You may explore Iceland’s capital city on your own if time allows.

Overnight location:
Hotel Cabin (Budget version, standard room is 10m²) / Hótel Klettur (Comfort version), or similar in Reykjavík. Dinner is on your own. (50km / 31mi).

Meal: No Meal

At 9:00 am, meet your guide for a tour of Reykjavík’s highlights. Then head to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you’ll explore its hot springs, bird cliffs, and fishing villages. Unwind at the famous Blue Lagoon before traveling to Hella for a two-night stay. In the evening, learn about the Northern Lights from your guide and prepare for Aurora hunting.

Today, we travel along Iceland’s stunning South Coast toward the region of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Our first stop is Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a 65-meter-high cascade with a unique path behind it, offering incredible views from within the mist.

Next, we visit the Skógar Folk Museum, home to a fascinating collection of historic Icelandic artifacts and traditional turf houses. Just nearby, we’ll stop at the majestic Skógafoss waterfall, another 62-meter-high beauty known for its roaring falls and frequent rainbows.

For those who pre-booked the optional glacier hike, the bus will drop you at the Sólheimajökull glacier base for a 3-hour adventure on the ice. Remember to bring warm clothes, rain gear, and hiking boots. If not joining the hike, continue south to the famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, where you can stroll along the shore and see the dramatic bird cliffs.

In the evening, we gather at Stracta Hotel (or similar) for a Northern Lights presentation. If the skies are clear, step outside to catch the Aurora Borealis lighting up the sky, with the large, dark hotel grounds providing excellent viewing conditions.

In the morning, we explore the history and unique qualities of the Icelandic horse, known for its strength and special gait. We then visit a geothermal greenhouse, where you’ll see how Iceland uses natural geothermal energy to grow fresh produce in a challenging climate.

Next, we continue along the famous Golden Circle route, starting at the Geysir geothermal fields, where steam rises from bubbling hot springs and active geysers. From there, we move on to Gullfoss, a stunning double waterfall that plunges into a deep canyon, providing spectacular views.

Our day finishes at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you’ll learn about the tectonic rift between the North American and Eurasian plates, and visit the historic site of Iceland’s ancient Viking Parliament, one of the most important places in the country’s history.

If conditions allow, you may choose to book an optional Northern Lights evening cruise for a chance to see the Aurora Borealis from the sea.

Spend the day exploring Reykjavík at your own pace. Stroll the main shopping street, visit museums, or relax in one of the city’s cozy cafés.

We start the day early with our tour guide, heading west. Our first stop is Grábrók, a 3,400-year-old volcanic crater, where you can enjoy panoramic views from the top. Afterward, we pause for lunch in the picturesque coastal town of Búðardalur before continuing along the fjords of Ísafjarðardjúp, a route offering stunning views — and with a bit of luck, perhaps a glimpse of a whale!

Next, we visit Litlibær, one of the last remaining turf houses in Iceland, now transformed into a cozy café and museum that offers a glimpse into the past. Later in the afternoon, we reach Ísafjörður, the largest town in the Westfjords, which will be our home for the next three nights. As darkness falls, prepare to head out for a chance to witness the Northern Lights dancing across the sky.

We begin the day at the magnificent Dynjandi waterfall, often hailed as one of Iceland’s most stunning natural wonders. Its tiered cascade creates a series of smaller waterfalls, flowing gracefully into the fjord below, offering a breathtaking sight. From there, we journey along the coastline and fjords, making our way to the captivating pier at Önundarfjörður. Set against a golden beach and stretching out into the water, this pier offers unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

After a refreshing nature walk, we enjoy a delightful meal before taking a stroll through the charming town of Ísafjörður. Known for its colorful houses and cobblestone streets, Ísafjörður is rich in history and serves as a cultural center, hosting numerous festivals and events throughout the year. As evening falls, we head back outside, ready for another chance to witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights.

We begin the day with a visit to the Ósvör Maritime Museum, a restored 19th-century fishing hut where we explore the tough lives of Icelandic fishermen who relied on rowboats in remote coastal villages. Afterward, we head to the quaint village of Flateyri and make a stop at one of its hidden gems, Gamla bókabúðin, or “The Old Bookstore.” Operating since 1914, this charming store is perfect for finding unique souvenirs and admiring traditional Icelandic craftsmanship.

While in Flateyri, we delve into the village’s history. We also visit the avalanche protection fences, built to shield the community from future disasters. As evening falls, we set out for a stroll under the Arctic sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of the enchanting Northern Lights.

Today, we visit the charming village of Hólmavík, home to the fascinating Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft. Here, you’ll explore the rich history and folklore surrounding Icelandic magic, with a vast collection of artifacts including ancient grimoires, ritual objects, and the unique Icelandic magical staves, believed to hold protective and mystical powers.

After a day full of intriguing discoveries, we head to the remote Vogur Country Lodge in West Iceland. This serene and unspoiled location is ideal for Northern Lights hunting, so make sure to stay up and keep an eye on the skies for a chance to witness the magical Aurora Borealis.

As our week of adventures in the stunning Westfjords draws to a close, we make our way to the town of Borgarnes for a visit to the Settlement Center. Here, you’ll step back in time with exhibitions housed in a warehouse, merchant house, and reception hall, offering insights into the fascinating and challenging era of early human settlement in Iceland.

From Borgarnes, we continue south to Reykjavík, where we’ll explore the capital’s rich history and iconic landmarks, including the striking Hallgrímskirkja church, the University campus, and the picturesque harbour, with its colorful fishing boats and mountain views. We’ll also stop by the spectacular Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre, an architectural marvel on the waterfront. To wrap up the day, we’ll enjoy a taste of Iceland’s famous fermented shark and toast to an unforgettable journey with a shot of Brennivín.

Duration of this activity is approximately 3 hours in total, about 90 minutes on the ice and about 30-40 min walk (one-way) from the car park to the glacier edge itself. The minimum age for the glacier hike is 10 years. You need to bring warm clothing, rain gear and hiking boots. The glacier hike can be booked through email with us before the tour starts.

Children discount: 20% discount for children 8-11 years of age if sharing a room with 2 adults. Tour is not recommended for children younger than eight years of age. Triple rooms are double rooms with an extra bed and are ideal for two adults and one child.

be cancelled during the winter season in Iceland. In these rare cases, where situations of force majeure apply, excursions/activities
