  • Sun and Fun in the Balearic Islands An exciting cruise to Barcelona – 7 Day
  • (#18463)
Overview

The sun reigns on these charming and authentic Mediterranean islands. Our cruise includes glimpses of traditional living and a plunge into the exuberant Spanish scenery. Barcelona is one of the trendiest places to visit nowadays, in part due to Gaudi's cathedral masterpiece La Sagrada Familia. The city bustles from avenue to avenue, but a moment of calm and solitude in a small square right around the corner is never far away.

Detailed Itinerary

Passengers are welcome to board at 6:00 p.m. We'll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail before dinner on board. The rest of the evening is yours to do as you please.

This morning, we'll set out on an optional guided tour of Barcelona. This seaside city contains historical treasures that span 2,000 years: Roman ruins, medieval districts, and Modernist masterpieces. We'll visit the Gothic Quarter and its narrow streets filled with trendy bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. Along our way, we'll pass two Gaudi designs, the Casa Batllo and Casa Mila buildings. The next stop will be La Boqueria Market for a taste of some Spanish cold cuts.
This afternoon, we'll enjoy an optional tour of La Sagrada Familia and the Park Güell. La Sagrada Familia is Antoni Gaudi’s magnum opus. The magnificent building has been under construction since 1882 and is an absolute must-see when in Barcelona. The church is expected to be finished in 2026, a century after Gaudi's death. Although cranes and scaffolding surround the building, its fascinating and quirky beauty remain inside and out. Afterwards, we'll take a stroll through Park Güell, another Gaudi urban masterpiece. The now-public park began as a private estate back in the 1800s. Eusebi Güell commissioned Gaudi to remodel the house and build a perimeter wall with gates. The renowned architect also helped design the estate's gardens, building a pergola and two fountains.

We'll spend the morning cruising. Later, there will be a lecture in the lounge: Barcelona, Capital of the Distinctive Autonomous Community of Catalonia. Join us for a snack of Spanish pastries.

Join us for an optional excursion to the island of Ibiza this afternoon. Our first stop will be Les Salinas, the paradise-like expanse of beach bordering the crystal-clear water. We'll continue on to the mountain village Sant Josep de sa Talaia to see its magnificent bright-white church and then to the coastal town of Sant Antoni de Portmany. Our last stop will be Dalt Vila, the island's fortified old town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We'll enjoy dinner and an evening of entertainment.

Join us for an optional, full-day excursion to discover Mallorca (lunch included). We'll visit Valldemossa, a village steeped in old-world charm and tucked in the middle of the mountains. Our tour includes the Valldemossa Charterhouse and King Sancho's Palace. The next stop is Fornalutx, one of the most charming villages in Spain. Enjoy a traditional Mallorcan meal at an island restaurant. We'll then head to the island's capital, Palma. We'll travel through the lovely small streets of its historic district to pay a visit to the imposing 14th-century cathedral, known as La Seu. Later, there will be a lecture in the lounge: George Sand and Frédéric Chopin in Valldemossa During the 1838-1839 Winter.
We'll begin to cruise to Menorca. Join us for an evening of dancing in the lounge.

We'll arrive in Port Mahon, the first port of call in the Balearic Islands and one of the most beautiful natural harbors in the Mediterranean. Since ancient times, the well-placed port has been used—first by the Greeks, Phoenicians, and Carthaginians, and centuries later by European countries such as England, France, Germany, and even Russia.
In the morning, we'll set out on an optional guided tour of Port Mahon. We'll visit the fortress of La Mola, also known as the fortress of Isabel II, an impressive, well-preserved military stronghold built to defend the island. Today, it is a major tourist site full of history and gorgeous views of the surrounding sea. We'll also visit Mahon, the capital of the island. Visitors adore the Georgian-style mansions, old churches, vibrant markets, and charming alleyways.
This afternoon, join us for an optional excursion to Ciutadella. We'll cross Menorca by passing over the highest hill on the island, El Toro, before reaching the former capital, Ciutadella, one of the loveliest cities on the islands. Its delightful streets, palm-lined squares, and historic palaces reflect the area's importance and rich heritage.

After we return to the ship, we'll begin to cruise once again. We'll enjoy dinner and an evening of entertainment.

We'll spend the day cruising on the Mediterranean Sea. Take advantage of this time to participate in some of the activities offered on board. You might try working out in our fitness room, indulging in a massage, or just catching some rays on our Sun Deck. In the afternoon, join us for a lecture in the lounge: The Different Hues of the Balearic Islands. After, our crew will welcome you on the Sun Deck for a cocktail party with Spanish tapas and sangria.
