Detailed Itinerary

On arrival into Auckland, you will be transferred to your city hotel. This afternoon meet your local tour representative who will provide a tour briefing and confirm tomorrow’s departure details.
Hotel: Grand Chancellor Auckland City

Following breakfast join your group for a morning sightseeing tour of Auckland City. You will explore the City’s beautiful waterside setting, travel to the beach side neighbourhoods to the east of the city and take advantage of great views at Bastion Point. A highlight of the tour will be a visit to the Sky Tower where you will ascend 220 metres above the ground to view the vast Auckland Skyline. The morning tour will conclude at Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, formally the commercial hub of Auckland’s
waterfront – but now a pedestrian friendly development of apartments, restaurants and open spaces for the public to enjoy. Dinner is included this evening. B,D

Leaving Auckland this morning your tour travels towards the south Waikato region of Waitomo, where much of the area’s natural wonders can be found below the earth’s surface as rolling hills and unspoilt native bush gives way to subterranean limestone caverns. Millions of years in the making, Waitomo’s (wai meaning water and tomo meaning hole into the ground in Maori) visually awe-inspiring cave network draws people looking for adventure and those looking for a sense of wonder. Enjoy an intimate guided tour of a glow worm cave. Then onto Rotorua, a volcanic wonderland where the ground steams, mud and waters bubble and geysers erupt high into the sky and a place rich in New Zealand’s Māori culture and history. Dinner is included this evening.
Hotel: Distinction Rotorua Hotel. B,D

This morning enjoy a City Tour including a visit to Te Puia - Whakarewarewa geothermal valley where you will have the opportunity to see native kiwi birds, learn about Maori history & culture and explore the 60 hectare Geothermal Valley, showcasing the famous Rotorua mud pools and over 500 geothermal wonders, including the Pohutu Geyser, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest active geyser. A ride on the Gondola to Skyline Rotorua is also included to experience spectacular views of lake Rotorua, the city and steaming geothermal landscapes. The afternoon is yours to explore Rotorua, or perhaps you would like to take in a scenic flight (additional cost) over Rotorua City, the Geothermal Parks or Mt
Tarawera to view spectacular craters and domes formed by the 1886 eruption. This evening you may choose to join a local Maori Cultural show with a Hangi influenced meal (additional cost). Your Coach Captain will assist you with your booking. B

Travel to Taupo to explore this picturesque lakeside town. Time will be allowed for shopping and lunch (own expense). On route you will stop at Wairakei and Huka Falls on the mighty Waikato River. In the afternoon continue south on State Highway 5 through to the Hawkes Bay and the Art Deco city of Napier. Dinner is included this evening at your hotel.
Hotel: Scenic Te Pania Hotel. B,D

Napier, on the eastern coast of the North Island is surrounded by the fabulous and award winning Hawkes Bay wine region. The city was rebuilt in the 1930’s following a devastating earthquake in 1931. The result is one of the best collections of Art Deco architecture in the world. You will have a chance to explore the buildings in detail with a morning walking tour in the city centre. This afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. You may choose to take a local wine tour or visit some of the retro antique stores in the town centre. Your Coach Captain will assist you with any tour bookings you would like to make. B

Head south today, along State Highway 2. The tour will pass through the towns of Dannevirke, with it’s strong Scandinavian heritage and Mangatainoka with its famous Tui Brewery building. In the afternoon visit Pukaha National Wildlife Centre at Mt Bruce in the Wairarapa. Here you will learn about their conser-vation work with native New Zealand wildlife including rare birds such as Kiwi, Kokako and Takahe.
Continue to Wellington .
