Detailed Itinerary

Upon your arrival, you should proceed to the exit, where a guide is there to transfer you to the hotel

On today’s trip you will have one and the only opportunity of a close encounter with the most adorable creature on this planet - the Giant Panda.

Drive 2 hrs to reach Dujiangyan Panda Valley, established by China Panda Conservation and Research Center as one of the three panda sanctuaries away from Chengdu, and do a voluntary job as a panda keeper on half day basis there to see lovely pandas in different ages sleeping, walking, eating, cuddling with each other in their sanctuaries.

Dujiangyan Panda Base is the only panda sanctuary in Sichuan where you may join the Panda Voluntary Program. This private 4-hour tour will give you access to the center's panda bears and an opportunity to learn how the center's professional staff looks after these endangered animals on a daily basis.

In the early morning (about 7am), your tour guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive to the Dujiangyan Panda Base to check into the program. You will be given a uniform, a pair of gloves, and a volunteer’s ID card for the day. Your guide will introduce you to the professional panda keepers who look after these majestic creatures. These panda keepers speak very little English; however, your guide will be there for you all the time to translate and take memorable photos of you.

During the course of volunteering, you will clean the panda enclosures and tour around the panda base. Take a short break before helping the staff feed the pandas. Take pictures of Giant Pandas and learn about their biology, behavior, and what efforts the center has paid to protect and breed this species. You will watch a panda movie and then learn to make panda food (cakes).

Upon completion of your voluntary work, you will receive a certificate for this unforgettable day. Say goodbye to the pandas you look after as well as the staff and head back to your downtown Chengdu hotel where this tour concludes

Another day trip enables the access of a close look at the highest Buddha statue carved out of stone. It is located some 160 kilometers away from Chengdu, nestled against the cliffs surrounded by water at the juncture of three rivers. The construction of the statue commenced in 713 AD in Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) and was not completed until 90 years later. The Buddha was built to be in sitting position, with a general height of 71 meters and the shoulders stretching out 28 meters wide. There used to be a pavilion hanging over the stature for protection but it was later removed. It has been sitting there for over 1,200 years, owing to a sound and intricate drainage system in addition to continuous maintenance during the following dynasties until now.

You can walk all the way down to the foot to admire the grandeur of the Buddha and embark on a cruise to get a full picture from afar.

Head back to Chengdu for overnight at the end of the day.

This morning you will be transferred to the airport to catch the flight to Shanghai. When you arrive after a 2.5-hour flight, you will meet a new guide who will then take you to your hotel.

The rest of the day is free at leisure for you to explore this dynamic city.

As the most developed city around China, apart from being the international financial hub and largest logistics port for international trade in the world, Shanghai is also the worldwide icon for fashion and lifestyle.

Your exploration in this metropolis begins with a visit to Xintiandi, a masterpiece of functional transformation from old dwelling quarter into a business complex home to many boutique hotels, luxury restaurants, art galleries, coffee shops and etc. A chic atmosphere is generated by the contract between the exterior with its original vintage look and luxury artistic interior of each building.

You will proceed with the exploration of the city’s past with an excursion to Yuyuan Garden. Owned originally by a government official in Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644 AD), the garden has been built with 20 years’ time. The courtyards, houses, ponds, pavilions and etc. are exquisitely laid out to create tiers of sceneries within the garden.

The Bund is the best place to exemplify the cultural diversity of this city. It refers to an area running along the western bank of Huangpu River with many historical buildings ever home to various financial institutions operating in China in the middle of 20th Century. The development of this area began in 1844, when it was officially ceded to British administration by the court of Qing Dynasty (1636 – 1912 AD) as a result of the defeat in the First Opium War. It witnessed the history of China being defeated by foreign military power, invaded and finally declaring independence after hundreds of years of flight. Now the Bund is known for the best place for promenade in China as well as in the world. The old buildings on the western bank and the new skyscrapers on the eastern side represent the past and the present Shanghai.

You will wind up your full day tour by a scenic drive among the skyscrapers on the other side of Huangpu River. You can access any of them for a panoramic view of the city by paying an additional cost on your own.

Today will be a free day for you to continue exploration, do some shopping or simply take a rest at the hotel. We also offer you a couple of optional tours in case you still prefer to schedule some guided tours today.

You will be picked up from the hotel lobby and transferred to the airport to board your flight to the next destination. This is a private transfer and the pick-up time will be worked out exactly in accordance with your flight time.
