Here, we make a brief visit to see the gilded dome of The Ubudiah Mosque, drive by the impressive Iskandariah and Kenangan Palace and see oldest rubber tree in Peninsula Malaysia which was brought over during the British colonization era in 1877. We then proceed to the highlight of this tour – traditional trades. Firstly, we will visit the 66-year-old Pak Mazin who has been making the ‘Keris’ (Malay Dagger), since the age of 12. His unique work is highly sought after as he is among the few crafters of Malay weapons who still employ traditional methods to produce weapons that the Malays consider as a symbol of strength and authority. After that, we proceed to visit the making of ‘Tekat’ (Gold Thread Embroidery). It is a handiwork passed down from mothers to daughters. In the olden days, each girl was given her first and most important assignment to display her handiwork by creating beautiful embroidery pieces to be worn or paraded for her own wedding ceremony. Today, this handiwork has become very popular, especially among royal families in Malaysia. Last but not least, we continue to the Sayong Pottery Village to witness the making of ‘Labu Sayong’, a symbol of Kuala Kangsar. It is a handicraft made of clay, originally use as a water storage container. Now, it is also used for decoration purposes.
