Detailed Itinerary

Flight from Santiago de Chile to Easter Island - Not included.

Arrival at Mataveri International Airport (IPC) | Shared transfer to your hotel, only Spanish-speaking driver.
Remote island located 3,760 km to the west of the Chilean coasts. Mystic and overwhelmed with legend, its history goes back to IV century A.D. Famous are the colossal stone statues, up to seven meters high, known as Moai, that stand with their backs to the Pacific and which origin, until today, is a mystery. Still there is no consensus on the origins of its first inhabitants. Some state that the first settlers came from the Polynesia but others remark that its origin is South American.

Anakena Full Day Experience
Regular Service (Shared) | Guided Tour in English & Spanish | Duration: Full Day (6.5 hours) | Transfers and box-lunch included.

Departure from your hotel in Hanga Roa. The tour begins along the southeast and northeast coast of the island, visiting Ahu Akahanga, where we will find very well-preserved remains of what was an ancient Rapa Nui village. We will continue to Rano Raraku, one of the most important and extraordinary archaeological sites on the island. In that volcanic quarry the moais were carved and hundreds of them can be seen. After the tour, we will have lunch in a picnic area on the slopes of this volcano. We will continue to the Ahu Tongariki platform, the largest ceremonial structure built on Easter Island and the most surprising. It is one of the most famous postcards on the island, with its 15 large moais. Then we will continue towards Ahu Te Pito Kura, where the largest statue ever erected in an Ahu is found: the moai PARO, 10 meters high and 85 tons, with a PUKAO of 11.5
tons. Next to the AHU is a large spherical stone that is identified as the navel of the world (TE PITO O TE HENUA), which according to legend was brought by king Hotu Matua 'a in his boat. Finally we will arrive at Anakena beach, with its white sands, pristine water and tropical palm trees. In this area there are important archaeological remains due to their state of conservation, such as the Ahu Nau Nau platform. On that beautiful beach we will have some time to enjoy and relax before returning to the hotel.

Now with 7 moai, rumor has it that they represent the 7 explorers sent by Hotu Matu’a before his colonizing voyage. After this visit, the tour continues to Ahu Huri A Urenga and, finally, Puna Pau, a small crater of red scoria in which the Pukao (‘hats’ or crowns of the moai) were manufactured.

We will go to the Vinapu sector, an archaeological site characterized by its large basalt slabs carefully made to fit, similarly to the Inca constructions of Cusco. We will also visit the Rano Kau Volcano, a beautiful place with a lagoon and small cattail islands and abundant vegetation and microfauna. We will visit the ceremonial village of Orongo, the place where the "birdman" ceremony was held, which designated who would be the spiritual and political chief with the king during the period of one year.
